Thank you to Erin Kelly, Director of Waypoint's Runaway and Homeless Youth Continuum for a very moving and informative presentation about the homeless youth in our community.
I hope you were moved by today’s presentation. As you know I am sleeping out again this year to raise funds for our homeless youth. We have an even greater sense of urgency as our Federal funding has been eliminated, and we remain the only provider in NH to work with the Homeless Youth. We are not going to give up. I am not letting them down.
If fundraising is the only way, for now, to keep this program alive, I am committed, and need your help.
So one more year I WILL BE SLEEPING OUT ON MARCH 22nd. Outdoors, in a park, under a tarp, with just my sleeping bag. It gets very, very cold (14 degrees last year), and we are all reminded of what these youth go through every day.
I will be joined by a number of community leaders, and this year, NH Governor Sununu and Manchester Mayor Craig have agreed to join us in the effort and are sleeping outside with all of us to raise awareness and funds for the homeless.
Let me remind you why I am doing this:
Every year, more than 1,500 homeless youth turn to our agency, Waypoint ,for help. We provide survival aid and fulfill basic needs such as food, clothing and medical care. In addition, we work to put these youth on a better path through educational and vocational advocacy, mental health and substance abuse treatment, job search and housing.
Please help. We can't do it without your support!
On behalf of the hundreds of youth we serve each year, THANK YOU!
