The Queen City Rotary Club is pleased to offer an annual scholarship to graduating high school seniors. In keeping with Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self,” this award recognizes a student who has demonstrated a sincere commitment to community service and a genuine concern for the well-being of others.
This scholarship is funded in honor of Ken Wakefield, who passed away in 2010. Ken was an active Rotarian for most of his adult life, founded the Queen City Rotary Club in 1981, and proudly served as its first president. His legacy of service and leadership continues to inspire this award.
This year's recipient is Abigail Lampson, a West High School student, received the scholarship for her impressive work founding the Literacy Lifeline initiative, which has distributed over 3,000 books to underprivileged students statewide through her "Totes of Tales" book drive program. Abigail will attend Suffolk University to study business management and leadership with a minor in business law.
